Richard has 34 years of investing experience and associated advisory services. He was a partner at Permira (2000 – 2018) and co-head of the firm’s activities in industrial technologies and services.
Richard established Permira in the USA in 2002 and served on the firm’s portfolio review committee. Richard led numerous investments and developed successful exits to strategic buyers including Danaher, 3M, BASF, Honeywell and United Rentals. Previously, he advised on direct investing and venture capital transactions in the UK including an extended assignment with the management of AU System, a Permira company. From 1986-1998 he worked at Arthur Andersen in Australia and the UK, on M&A and private equity. Richard obtained a MBA (Honors) from IMD, in Switzerland in 1996. He was nominated to the Foundation Board of IMD in 2021.
Chris Cole was CEO and Co-Founder of Intelligrated. From 1994 to 2000 he was COO of Pinnacle Automation, and CEO of three subsidiaries-Buschman, White, and Real Time Solutions.
Chris Cole was a co-founder of Intelligrated, Inc., a material handling system design and manufacturing company, in 2001. In August 2016, Chris and his partners sold Intelligrated to Honeywell in a transaction valued at $1.5 Billion. During its history as a private company, Intelligrated returns were over $1 billon to its investors. Chris continued in a leadership role at Honeywell Intelligrated until his retirement at the end of the first Quarter 2018. Clients include many major dot com, retail, pharmaceutical and consumer goods companies. Intelligrated won many awards, including the Cincinnati Enquirer Best places to work, Cincinnati Fast 55, the Cincy Manny award, Inc 5000, and Northrop Grumman Supplier of the Year. Prior to the founding of Intelligrated, Inc., Chris served as chief operating officer of Pinnacle Automation, Inc., and held various executive positions with Milacron, Inc., including vice president and general manager of the industrial robot business, group vice president of Worldwide Machine Tools, and chief strategic officer. An active volunteer in Cincinnati, Chris has served extensively for the American Red Cross, as well as for the local chapter. He has held many volunteer positions in the organization, including Chapter Chairman. He is Past Chair of Community Service for the American Red Cross. Chris was awarded the Red Cross 2008 Clara Barton award for Volunteer Service. He is past Chair of the Cincinnati Chamber USA Regional Foundation. He is also past Secretary and director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Chris has also served on many United Way campaign committees, as well as the Cincinnati Arts Festival. He is currently a director and executive committee member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. In June 2008, Chris (CEO) and, Jim McCarthy Intelligrated, Inc., (COO), were both Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® award recipients. In 2016 they were both named E & Y Master Entrepreneurs. Chris is a Director of the Gleason Corporation, of Rochester, NY, RF Smart of Jacksonville, FL and Plus One Robotics of San Antonio, TX. In addition, he served two terms on the Board directors of the Cincinnati Branch of the Cleveland Federal Reserve through year end 2018. After attending the Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia, Chris received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Harvard University, where he was named a Roger Siver Fellow in 1979. He is married to Sheila Jones Cole, and has two grown children. He is a non-practicing CPA in Ohio.
Jim is a founder of Redwood Technology Ventures (RTV). Jim was a founder and President of Intelligrated Inc. (acquired by Honeywell) Intelligrated grew to a billion-dollar leader in the material handling automation industry. Jim retired from Honeywell Intelligrated in 2017 capping a 44-year career in the material handling industry.
Jim McCarthy was a co-founder of Intelligrated, the preeminent material handling automation organization which he grew from an idea to a start-up to a billion-dollar market leader. Intelligrated's success was built on having the right team of people delivering the right products, capabilities, and performance standards to serve and provide solutions to their customers. This success led to an acquisition by Honeywell in 2017. Prior to Intelligrated Jim was President of The Buschman Company, where he helped propel the company into a market leader in industrial automation. Jim remained with the company until its acquisition by FKI Plc. in 2000. Jim began his career at Rapistan (now Dematic) where he served in various engineering and management positions. Jim is a graduate of Ferris State University and Harvard Business School PMD Program, and is a USMC Vietnam War Veteran.
Mike has a proven track record in leading cross-functional teams to develop winning sales strategies and solution design for some of today’s most complex and highly integrated material handling and IT systems.
Mike has an award-winning sales record at GE Healthcare and Honeywell Intelligrated. He achieved President’s Club status more than half of the time within each organization. While at GE Healthcare, Mike served in a customer facing, hands-on technical position and later as an IT Sales Executive. He would collaborate with customers on the design and implementation of complex, software-based workflow solutions for hospital systems. Following GE, Mike joined Intelligrated (now Honeywell Intelligrated) as a major system sales Account Manager. While at Honeywell Intelligrated, Mike led some of the most technically challenging and successful sales engagements of highly automated and complex material handling systems and often with newly launched products and incorporating the broadest suite of technologies. Mike had a significant impact on the sales organization overall and was instrumental in streamlining the pre-sales engineering processes and alignment with sales. Mike holds a B.S. degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and an MBA from DeVry University.
Rick brings over 40 years’ experience creating and selling material handling automation solutions gained at Rapistan (today’s Dematic), Pinnacle Automation, and Intelligrated to the Redwood Technology Ventures team.
Rick has a BS in Engineering Sciences and a master’s degree in Engineering Mechanics, both from the University of Florida. Rick began his career at Rapistan, initially in engineering before transitioning into Sales, focusing on developing long term relationships with customers. He then joined a group of executives in the purchase of what became Pinnacle Automation, which was acquired by FKI Logistex in 2000. In 2001 Rick had the opportunity to join in the founding of Intelligrated. He helped grow Intelligrated by establishing partnerships with several Fortune 100 customers based on providing automation solutions for their Supply Chains. After Honeywell’s acquisition of Intelligrated Rick left and joined the Redwood team as a Partner.
Ed has over 20 years of Executive officer experience with proven history in both product and service businesses. Most recently Ed was EVP and CFO for Intelligrated (sold to Honeywell).
Ed joined Intelligrated in 2010 as EVP & CFO. He led Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Legal, Information Systems, Human Resources, Procurement and After-market sales and support. Prior to Intelligrated, Ed worked as the CFO, CAO or COO in diverse industries, construction engineering products, steel, and logistics services. He assisted the CEO and ownership in turnaround situations. Ed began his career with General Electric (GE) Industrial Systems where he graduated from their Financial Management Program, Advanced Operational Program, and Advanced Marketing and Sales Program. Ed has a BS degree in Biology from Lewis University and a MBA from DePaul University.
